This involves cutting stock using the horizontal band saw, deburing the metal with files and sand paper, then positioning the material in the lathe and squaring and center drilling one end. Other operations to be performed, setting cutting tool to correct height, machining a taper, drilling and taping, and holding a .010 tolerance on a machined diameter.
Once all tasks are performed parts are exchanged between class members and the students use micrometers calipers etc and determine the accuracy of the machine part.
This is the last class in the course, student who have successfully complete all task safely will be given the code to access the student machine shop and tools in the shop. They may use the shop 24-7 assuming a second person is present.
