Machine Shop: Lesson 8 - Milling machine project

This class requires skills and knowledge and safety training gained in previous classes. Students are issued a drawing, as seen below, and are ask to manufacture a part to the print spec.

This involves cutting stock, using a band saw, deburing the metal with files and sand paper. Then positioning the material in the mill machine vice and squaring the ends.  The mill, and associated tooling, is used to finding the exact center with in .001.

A slot is machined a predetermined depth and distance. The final operations include drilling three different size holes and taping two a holes (squarely) through the material. Once all operations are performed parts are exchanged between class members and the students use micrometers calipers etc and determine the accuracy of the machine part.
